Our Favorite Horror Series

At least fifty percent of the staff at PotAdvisor love (and I do mean LOVE) horror from every aspect of media. So, we decided to start a series of posts related to our favorite titles from each format. To start with, we thought we would do a list of our favorite horror series that you can stream today and enjoy with your favorite edible, strain, or concentrate.

Note, there are far more series that we love, but just didn’t make the list, so who knows…maybe we will do an expanded list in the future.

Also, be on the lookout for our follow-up piece on our favorite horror video games.

5. The Terror: Season One – 2018

Rated: TV-MA

The first season of “The Terror” is one of our staff’s all time favorite pieces of cinema, not just horror. If you are in the mood for a period piece about an expedition trying to be the first to navigate the Northwest Passage, while battling mental illness, substance abuse, disease, and even the supernatural then this is the show for you. Starring Jared Harris, this is a slow burn that keep you on the edge of your seat from start to finish.

4. Marianne – 2019

Rated: TV-MA

You can’t get a more concise description of the show than what Netflix already has “Lured back to her hometown, a famous horror writer discovers that the evil spirit who plagues her dreams is now wreaking havoc in the real world.” This French series is a must watch for anyone who enjoys supernatural horror. Imagine a mixture of “Twin Peaks”, “The Ring”, and “The Shining”, but also none of those at the same time. Seriously, do yourself a favor and watch it!

3. Midnight Mass – 2021

Rated: TV-MA

While it isn’t quite a straightforward horror, as “The Haunting of Hill House”, Mike Flanagan’s “Midnight Mass” was our favorite horror of 2021. We don’t want to give anything away, so we will just leave the Netflix description here…”The arrival of a charismatic young priest brings glorious miracles, ominous mysteries and renewed religious fervor to a dying town desperate to believe.” We seriously can’t recommend this show enough! The church scenes are some of the most authentic representation of services that we have ever seen, and even had us transported to our childhoods…until it all goes wrong. Watch this cautionary tale of the dangers of group think today!

2. Ash VS Evil Dead – 2015

Rated: TV-MA

Of course, we had to have a horror comedy in this list and there’s none better at the genre than Sam Raimi, which is why we have to recommend all the splattery goodness of “Ash VS Evil Dead”. If you grew-up in the 80’s and 90’s (like we did), then it was almost impossible to be a horror fan without watching the “Evil Dead” series. It’s now 30 years since the events of the first film unfolded, and Ash is back to kick some Deadite ass! Fans of the originals, as well as the spiritual successor “Drag Me To Hell” will find themselves right at home with this hyper gore filled splatterfest.

1. Chernobyl – 2019

Rated: TV-MA

Lastly, we have to recommend HBO’s “Chernobyl”, based on the events of the Soviet nuclear facility that suffered a cataclysmic explosion April, 1986. While ghosts, witches, demons, and slashers can be entertaining to watch, there is nothing as truly terrifying as real world events. This is our top pic due to the high production value, amazing storytelling, incredible acting, and the unfettered horror of watching an entire region, as well as the people in it making sense of what happened, and the human sacrifices it took to “fix” their predicament.
