Louisiana Medical Marijuana Laws

In 2015, Louisiana legalized the use of medical marijuana for qualified patients if recommended by a physician. Doctors must determine if a patient has a qualifying condition and is a good candidate for medical marijuana. In Louisiana medical patients are provided a 30-day supply of non-smokable marijuana limited to 10 mg of THC per dose. Marijuana products include oils, extracts, tinctures, capsules, chewables, lotions, and suppositories among other non-smokable options. Medical marijuana products must be purchased at licensed state pharmacies.

How to get approved for medical marijuana in Louisiana

Potential patients must meet with a physician who is certified by the state to recommend medical marijuana. If a physician feels you are a good candidate, they will add your name to Louisiana’s medical marijuana patient registry. Currently, Louisiana does not issue medical marijuana cards and patients aren’t provided expiration dates when added to the registry.

If you are traveling to Louisiana and possess an out-of-state medical marijuana card, you are not allowed to purchase marijuana from a medical pharmacy.
